Warning signs and symptoms
Weakness, Paralysis, inability to move, numbness of the limbs or face, particularly down one side of the body. Vision becomes blurry or decreased Difficulty speaking, unexplained dizziness, difficulty swallowing, severe headache, drowsiness. The FAST test is a simple test to determine wether the victim is undergoing a stroke. Face- check to see if the victims mouth has dropped, can they smile? Arm- can both arms be lifted, does one fall down? Speech- has the victims speech slurred, can they understand what you are saying? Time- what time did the stroke start, call 000 straight away How to help the victim After doing the FAST, the best thing to do for the victim is to call 000 as the faster you get them treatment, the better the recovery. You can take the person to hospital immediately or wait for the ambulance to arrive. This then allows the professionals to give the correct medication to help the victim recover. |
