Warning signs and symptoms
It is important to first make sure that the animal cannot harm you while you try to approach and assist the victim. Once it is safe, try to wash away any remaining venom from the bite or sting and try to get the patient to stay still to reduce the toxic effects of the venom. Once you have washed away the venom, apply a cold pack wrapped in a cloth to numb the wound. The ice pack is wrapped is to prevent the ice from burning the patient's skin. If the bite is on a limb, it is important to elevate the limb to prevent bleeding. Then, wait for help to arrive while reassuring the victim that everything's alright. |
